Esperanto version to follow / Esperanta versio sekvas.

I’ll admit that I’m surprised that English seems to still be able to hold onto its position as the European lingua franca despite Britain leaving the EU. I realize things weren’t going to drastically change overnight, but there seems to be no desire for a change from almost all of the member states (besides France, of course).

It also seems like a huge missed opportunity for the Esperanto movement that we weren’t able to reignite a broader discussion about adopting Esperanto as an official EU language.

I’m not too upset though. 2020 was a chaotic year – to say the least. I don’t think anyone can be blamed for not being quite as active in Esperantujo as they would have liked to have been.

P.S. The title of this post works in both English and Esperanto. I’m so clever…

 

Mi konfesas ke mi estas iom surprizita ke la angla ŝajne ankoraŭ tenas sian rangon kiel la eŭropa pontolingvo malgraŭ tio ke Britio forlasis la Eŭropan Union. Mi konsciis ke nenio tro ŝanĝiĝus rapide, sed ŝajnas ke ne estas deziro por lingva ŝanĝo de preskaŭ ĉiu uniano (krom Francio, evidente).

Ankaŭ ŝajnas ke granda oportuno estis maltrafita por la movado ne rekomencante pli vasta diskuto pri la adopto de Esperanto kiel oficiala lingvo de la Eŭropa Unio.

Tamen tio ne ĉargrenigas min multe. 2020 estis ĥaosa jaro – diri iometon. Mi ne pensas ke estas iu kiu povas esti kulpa ĉar ĝi ne estis tiel aktiva en Esperantujo kiel ĝi volis.
